Well, after four or five months of frenetic rewriting, my fifth novel is nearly finished – for the second time. I’m very pleased with it, but I need your help. Before we submit the manuscript to publishers, I still need a decent title. Long-time readers may remember that my original working title was Paradise – which was the name of the town where the story was set. It was then pointed out to me that there was in fact a town in Missouri actually called Paradise. And then there was the small matter of a novel by Toni Morrison…
So it was back to the proverbial drawing-board. I have a handful of possibilities, but I’d like your input to tell me which grabs you most. Some of you may know more about the book than others, but that shouldn’t matter for the purposes of this exercise. I’m asking you to picture yourself wandering through a bookshop, gazing idly down at the new fiction titles. I’d love to know which of the following you’d be most likely to pick up, just based on the title alone.
Please leave a comment here or on facebook, or via any of the other ways you can contact me. I’d be fascinated to see what people think. And please, pass this on to your friends. The more the merrier. God knows when it comes to this stuff I need all the help I can get.
Thank you, in advance, for your help.
So, ahem, the contenders are (you may quickly notice a theme emerging):
SING, BROTHER, SING
A HISTORY OF FLIGHT
SONGS OF THE FATHERS
AMERICAN LOVE SONG
THE MAGNIFICENT MEISENHEIMERS
LOVE SONGS AND OTHER MYTHS
Looking forward to hearing your opinions. Again, thanks.
Alex, I want to know…where do you come up with these names?! I have to go with Love Songs and Other Myths. I don’t know why. Given my state of mind after tonight’s concert, I really should say Afterglow…which is why I’m just now getting to this…

I still like the Magnificent Meisenheimers.
How about “Four part harmony”?
